We learned a few different lessons during today's lecture. We watched a commerical on the impact that cheering has on people. I never realized how much difference a little bit of encouragement can do to an organization. I started thinking about it and it's really true though. For example, at a basketball game, when a team comes back and ties up the game, their fans all start cheering and it motivates them to keep puching and work harder to win. If there was no cheering, the team would probably stay down and not end up winning.
We also talked about time management today. I thought about what I would do with one more hour in the day. I'm always running out of time during the day it seems like and one more hour would be wonderful. But then I started thinking, I waste a lot of my time during the day doing absolutely nothing. I could drink an hour less or even sleep an hour less if I really had to. I waste time doing the things I want to do though, instead of spending more time on the things that need to get done. Most of the time, I have to stay up late or not go to bed at all sometimes just to catch up. I learned today, and I think it will really help, that you can't rent time, it's inelastic, perishable, and most of all irreplaceable. Dr. Feinberg proved to us by showing us the results of our time log, that we are all WASTING OUR TIME. We have to get the priorities straight and take care of the big things first, then the little things will just fill in. Even if it takes delegating our priorities, it's a good way to handle responsibility if there is too much of it. If you can delegate to the people below you, they will learn from it as well, so I shouldn't be afraid to do so.
