Today's lecture was about cohesiveness and being able to handle success and failure at the same time. I learned a lot today from Dr. Feinberg because I had never really considered that being nice to everyone in life no matter how you felt about them would pay off. But today I realized that, hey, someday they could be my boss!! I feel that our group has already created a great level of cohesiveness by doing the tower project and having many meetings already. All 20 of the members seem to want to succeed and do well, that's great because without everyone we cannot be 100% effective. I really liked the speech given by Condoleezza Rice that we watched because it just goes to show what a group of people can do if they are led well and are given respect by their leader as well. I learned that it's important to have a vision because without a vision where are you going, what are you doing with your life?? You have to have direction. These things seem so simple but I never thought about them like that until today. Nate told us today that we had to create a mission statement for our group. A mission statement is a vision; our group has to have a vision in order for us to succeed in this class with Dr. Feinberg. By listening to lecture, the most important thing I have gathered in a while I heard today: "The decisions we make today will eventually have a significant impact on the world." I love that, it's so brilliant. Dr. Rice showed it in her speech. She has a vision, and although it might not happen while she is in office, eventually the world will be a greater, safer place because of the things she wants to do while she is here. Learning to communicate is key to success as a leader, I've learned along the way that many of the best results are due to the people who worked below you at some point. Without your followers, a leader is nothing.
