Leaderhip Class (1/26)

Last Wednesday's leadership class we finished watching REMEMBER THE TITANS. Afterwards, Feinberg tells us if we want to be a group leader we need to come to the front immediately. Thirteen people went up front and he says, "These are the group leaders. You will never have another chance to be a leader in this class." I love the fact that he did that. Probably not to be a hardass, but leadership is kind of that way. If you don't take advantage of the situation when it's there, it's going to blow you by. The people that went up there had more balls then we did, which is fine, I don't want to deal with all that shit this semester anyway. I definetely think that this process of becoming a group leader is different, but I like it. Make them look stupid, in two years when everyone has graduated, who's going to remember anyway? But they'll always remember they got up in front and dared to be different. It makes me wish I had, in a way. I've always been the leader in every group I've ever been in, so I thought why bother this time. This was probably the time I should have tried to do it, but too late now. Anyway, Feinberg teaches us leadership with a completely different strategy. So he's trying to be a bad leader in order to teach us to be effective leaders, but it still seems to me like he's doing a pretty good job. At the end, he says, "What is wrong with you," asking the people who weren't standing up. He's probably right, what is wrong with us? I'm sure there are lots of excuses, I know I had mine. But really, if we want to get anywhere after we graduate, it's probably a good idea to take the chances that are given to us when someone does that.
